Do you want to start a taxi company? There's a lot involved. Read the complete step-by-step plan: from Chamber of Commerce registration to permit and insurance.

Introduction: Starting a taxi company in the Netherlands

Starting a taxi company in the Netherlands requires good preparation. There are legal requirements, permits and insurance required before you can go on the road as a professional taxi company. This step-by-step plan will help you get started.

Step 1: Choice of legal form

Most starting taxi entrepreneurs opt for a sole proprietorship. Do you want to collaborate with others or grow into a larger organization? Then a BV or VOF may be interesting. Get advice from an accountant or the Chamber of Commerce.

Step 2: Register with the Chamber of Commerce

Register your company with the Chamber of Commerce. You will receive a Chamber of Commerce number that you need for invoices, contracts and permit applications.

Step 3: Apply for a driver card (taxi pass)

Every taxi driver in the Netherlands needs a driver card. You can request this from the CBR. Requirements include a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG), a medical examination and a driving license B.

Step 4: Apply for a transport permit

For commercial taxi transport you need a transport permit, which can be applied for from the ILT (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate).

Step 5: Arrange vehicle and insurance

Make sure you have an approved taxi vehicle with a valid MOT and take out business liability insurance and taxi insurance.

Step 6: Register with the Tax Authorities

Register as an entrepreneur with the Tax Authorities for VAT returns and income tax. As a taxi driver you usually fall under the zero VAT rate for passenger transport.

Step 7: Create a profile on MatchMyDriver

Increase your visibility by registering on MatchMyDriver.com. Get in touch with clients directly without paying commissions.
